I decided to follow the footsteps of my childhood dreams and set up a small children's bookshop at The Riverside Barns in Ickleton, near to Saffron Walden and set in the picturesque South Cambridgeshire countryside after becoming a Phoenix Trading refugee. Unfortunately Phoenix went into administration and closed it's doors forever in the Autumn of 2017. I sold Phoenix Trading cards for the best part of four and a half years and enjoyed every minute of it. Starting and running small cottage industries is something that I do best.
When Phoenix closed we were presented with an opportunity to become a trader with it's spin off company which is currently in a beta phase and will be known publicly as Flamingo Paperie. I considered all options available to me but in the end I decided to use the demise of Phoenix Trading in order to start something new and fresh. Juggling being a Phoenix Trader whilst also studying towards a creative writing degree with The Open College of the Arts (OCA) had it's obvious challenges although both roles were very important to me.
I hope that running Alphabet Soup will present me with new opportunties and give me some experience which I can use to help me with my current college studies. I have always had a strong passion for books and reading and my tutor is a children's author, albeit in a small way. I look up to her and gain a lot of guidance and encouragement from her expert teaching style, friendly approach and awesome quick reads to inspire the mind.
I hope that being in charge of an amazing children's bookshop will begin to shape the next step of my life and help me on my pathway and lifelong ambition of becoming a published children's author myself one day in the future. So here I am with my own mini venture which I hope to grow as time goes by and as I learn the ropes and responsibilities that come along with my new role as a bookshop owner and keeper.
I look forward to serving you, your family and friends. From one book lover to another and as my favourite children's author Dr. Seuss quotes "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go."
Aim to read a book to your children at least once a day, brighten up their lives with a bit of literary fun and turn them into eager and confident consumers of written entertainment and knowledge.
I love my customers big and small! So why not come and visit my lovely little shop during the normal business hours. There is something for all ages of children and even for the grown-ups too.

Although we normally close the shop for lunch at 13:00 for 30 minutes. You can usually find us tucking into our food inside the onsite cafe or simply dining alfresco by the little lake on nicer weather days.
